Proofreading & Editing

Translate Russian recommend that your translations use our proofreading and editing service when the translation is being published or going into print. Any document that is used for wider circulation needs to be proofread before it can be said to be finished and ready. This 'polishing' process is extremly important. Do you want to make sure that your documents are free of embarrassing mistakes before they go to press or online?

Proofreading

Proofreading can be a seperate service. Your document might have initially been translated by a separate translator but we can provide a proofreading and checking service for texts which have been translated within your own company or by another translation service. This ensures that the translation of the text is as accurate as possible. We recommend this service for any translations being used for print or public viewing. Alternatively, you may have a translation where you are not certain of its quality. In this case, our proofreading service can clear up any quality issues you may have and can bring it up to date.

At Translate Russian we believe the very process of translating a document implies proofreading, thus our translation rates are already inclusive of this service. Nevertheless, proofreading is also available if your translation has been done elsewhere. Always performed by an independent translator, proofreading involves the process of reviewing copy-edited manuscripts, documents, or websites for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation and layout.

For technical translations we also carry out your proofreading using experienced practitioners in their field of work. We use lawyers, doctors, engineers, scientists or any other professional relevant to your translation, to proofread the texts produced by our translators. Proofreading is an acquired skill, not an innate ability. It is the comparison of a translation to the original text, ensuring that there are no orthographical, typographical or grammatical errors, omissions, mistranslations, style issues and any other inaccuracies.

Our proofreaders are all mother tongue linguists who have the same translation qualifications as our regular translators. Any alterations which we make to your translation can be implemented using the track changes option within Word which means that clients can clearly see which sections of a text have been changed. We can also provide a short report on the quality of the original translation if required.

Why proofreading?

The most careful writer makes mistakes, or can miss out what's important. Publications often contain errors, some lose real credibility as a result. Our proofreading services have caught many errors that could have damaged clients. In business, errors or omissions may threaten lives, lose cases or invalidate claims. Basic errors in a restuarant menu will put off potential long term customers.

Good proofreading saves more than embarrassment. Any document can contain errors. A translation offers more scope for misunderstanding. The richness of languages offers many alternative interpretations, the same meaning for many words. Translators must overcome bewildering choices. Proofreading services improve style and accuracy and help ensure the document is error free. Good proofreading can transform "adequate" to "excellent".

Every document is thoroughly checked and is formatted as well as, or better than, the original. Good proofreading's about more than content. Even for untranslated text, proofreading the originals often pays off. We have saved serious embarrassment by proofreading manuals and literature pre-press. We also provide proofreading service for education and examination boards.

Proofreading costs little, but can save money, time and reputations.

Editing

At Translate Russian our editors not only check material to correct errors in grammar and spelling but, most importantly, they review the text according to your company's guidelines. Our professionals know how to follow the rules, but also understand when to break them for good effect. Indispensable in a highly competitive economic environment, copy editing is your last defence line against bad writing.

Coming from backgrounds as diverse as Marketing and Journalism, our editors can also give you practical guidance or craft your message in such a way it will maximise the impact on your audience.

Our copy editors' duties may also include keeping an eye out for libel (defamatory untruths that could lead to lawsuits) and errors of fact. Being extremely detail-focused, our editors are familiar with a variety of resources like word processing software, style guides and dictionaries.

Our proofreading & editing services are charged on an hourly basis which gives you peace of mind that your translations have been checked and approved by language professionals.
